  1. Hi Vasanthi!
I just learned about your blog and am so excited to be able to share what I've been reading. Wild Magic by Cat Weatherill is a mouth watering adventure about a Piper that not only can charm rats but can charm children. Now the children in the town of Hemlin find themselves in a dangerous magical world of wild magic after being charmed by the antagonist, the mysterious Piper. Mirrana realizes after she left the town and entered the mysterious land of Elfendale that her brother is not among the other children. She expects since he is disabled he wasn't allowed to go through Hemlin Hill that leads to the mysterious world. She hopes he will be able to save the children. Cat Weatherill is able to provide strong clues about what's going to happen later on so it makes you as a reader want to figure out what's going on. The characters in the book Mirrana and Finn had changed all lot during the story. Mirriana the brave one with the strong heart has now turned into a ball of fear and cold heart as Finn had turned from a loving, Kind hearted elf to a furious beast. Hope you are having a great summer,

  3. This book sounds so exciting! I love how you have noticed and described the changes in the characters throughout the story. Is there a character you have related to or a character that you wished the author wrote more about? WHat time period does Wild Magic take place in? I am curious about this given the disabled brother? Would a story of today have a character with a disability not allowed to do something? Enough of my questions! I just finished reading A Single Shard by Sarah Park Lane. I loved the story and the time period in which it took place. It was nice to read a story that took place in another country. Perseverance was definitely a theme throughout the story. Every character persevered in some way or another! I am hoping to read another book by this author. Write soon! Vasanthi

  4. Marianna is a tough girl who cares a lot for her family and because of that I can relate to her. Even though I don’t have a disabled brother I would treat my brother the same way she does. She treats him like any other boy and encourages him. In the story Jacob, Marianna’s disabled brother, is treated like any other boy but he thinks that people reject him because he’s disabled. Jacob thinks that because he has twisted legs and a crocked back and can’t plays sports Jacob thinks that the other boys reject him. I think that even though the story is in a different time period children with disabilities are treated the same today. Now that we’ve gotten into the time period, I think it takes place may be a 100 years ago because all the girls wear long dresses and are told to work all day and all the boys wear caps and go to school. Also there are no cars in the story and they trade their food instead of supermarkets.

  5. I love the reasons why you can relate to Marianna. Making connections with characters is what makes them stay with us even after we have read the story. I like that the book is taking place in the past and that you can tell this by the details in the setting of the story. Do you like reading books that take place in the past or present? or the future? I don't seem to mind the time period as long as the story is well written and the author's message is timeless. Write soon!

  6. I do like books that take place is the past history has always had me interested but I also like fantasy book so it is hard to tell what time period it takes place in. I also just fished reading a very inspirational book called Drawing from Memory by Allen Say it’s a biography about a young boy who always wanted to be an artist ever since he was a kid. His parents didn’t like the idea and got mad at him whenever he mentions it but Allen doesn’t want to just stop there he secretly starts drawing in his room. When he enters high school he does poorly so he stops his drawing and works on school work instead. One day he reads in the newspaper that a boy a little older than him ran away from home to become a cartoonist and now works with a famous Japanese cartoonist Noro Shinpei to study more and become an artist too. Now this inspires Allen and he decides to go to see this Noro and ask if he will take him as a student also ….He accepts. The story takes place in the 1940’s when the war in Tokyo starts. But not only is he trying to become a cartoonist but he has a war going on behind him. Allen was successful in his career of being an artist and moved to the U.S. later on.
