Science and Band Introduction

Hello!
Please ask your child about SCS Everyday Expectations!  Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful!  We have noticed in just two days what a difference consistent expectations in all settings, across all grade levels, can do for our school!  We've been keeping these expectations in mind as we enjoy our new playground, too!  Thank You Shelburne!

We visited the band room today and got a introduction on the different instruments.  A visitor came in and played some of the instruments so we could see what they looked like and sounded like.  Mr.  Buckingham also talked about the next meeting for people who are serious about joining band and the 3 different families of instruments.

Please make sure to have a conversation with your child tonight.  Please email me and let me know if your child is serious about Band.  It is a big commitment which requires a lot of responsibility and time management.  Band is twice a week from 10:25 to 11:05.  Student will miss their grade level lunch, they will eat and have recess from 11:05 to 11:30.  This is where they will have to manage their time and be responsible.  Band lessons happen on a rotation and student will miss class time to go to those lessons.  Again, they will have to be responsible in knowing their lesson day and time and respectful about leaving and returning to class.  So, please talk with your child tonight and make a decision.
At science we took some flowers out of the pretty vases on our tables. We studied them and also added to our observations from yesterday in the garden.  Before we studied our flowers we made a chart (shown on the bottom right)  about what we should have in our observations and illustrations!  Our work improved tremendously from yesterday to today!  We honored our growth mindset and learned from one another through this experience.

We had a great day together and hope it will be like this the rest of the year again!  Written by Logan and Vasanthi
